Elementary Science Olympiad

February 19, 2017

Yesterday, I attended the 24th Annual Elementary Science Olympiad (ESO) at Jacksonville High School with my son, AC. He competed in 2 of the 28 events held there among the 32 schools that were represented. This was a state-wide competition that featured science events such as "Space Invaders," "Pasta Transporter," and "Crash Landing." Students not only competed by taking written tests; they also had to build objects such as bridges and perform tasks such as rolling pre-built cars made from pasta. I'm thankful for schools like Jacksonville that put forth the time and effort to recognize science and those students who excel in the subject. Over 300 awards were distributed to congratulate the top students in each event. Out of the many Alabama schools represented, the following ranked in the top six:

  1. Columbia Elementary

  2. Kitty Stone Elementary

  3. Clanton Elementary

  4. Clay Elementary

  5. The Donaho School

  6. Bryan Elementary
